Deborah Sommer, Ed.D
Deborah Sommer has a rich educational background developed during a 35-year career in public education, mostly in Oregon. She has extensive experience in curriculum development, including power standards, curriculum mapping and program audits. She is a specialist in team building and conflict resolution, including principal and staff relationships, contract negotiations and building parent and community support for schools.
Sommer has taught at every level of schooling -- elementary, middle and secondary. She has been a teacher, staff development specialist, vice-principal, principal, curriculum director and school superintendent. She has worked in large and small school districts as well as suburban and rural schools and currently teaches administrative classes at Portland State University in addition to serving as the Superintendent of the Canby School District.
Sommer, who received the Oregon Superintendent of the Year award in 2006, holds a masters degree in education and a doctorate of education in curriculum and instruction.
Sommer lives in a log cabin she and her husband built by hand on ten acres outside of Newberg, Oregon. She has two sons, ages 22 and 24, who live in Florida and California.
